Study Center in East Jerusalem

Step into the world of kings, prophets, apostles and Jesus of Nazareth - the land of the Bible. Wander narrow streets in Old Jerusalem and earn college or graduate credit. Or enroll for a shorter non-academic intensive seminar. The Jerusalem Center for biblical and archeological studies offers you many ways to grow.

When they say, " Next year in Jerusalem " could it be this year in Jerusalem for you ?

The Jerusalem Center is a service of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. It provides unparalleled study opportunities in the city that stands at the crossroads of the religious world.

This Study center is for you :

  • if you want to participate in a Bible-lands trip

  • if you want to organize an inexpensive Bible-lands trip for your group (retirees, pastors, club members, etc.)

  • if you (a university teacher or administrator) want to organize a study-travel experience in Jerusalem for your students in any of theses suggested areas :

    • Old and New Testament backgrounds

    • Hebrew prophets

    • The ancient world

    • Geography and history of Bible lands

    • Introduction to Biblical archeology

    • Field archeology

    • Biblical Hebrew

    • Modern Hebrew

From the Jerusalem Center special group seminars provide easy access to the historic sites of the Bible and major museums. While living in an Adventist Christian environment, participants take part in the extensive excursions featured in all programs. On occasion patrons of the Center have opportunity to attend lectures by internationally-known archaeologists and biblical scholars.

THE FACILITIES

The Jerusalem Center for Biblical and Archaeological Studies is located three blocks north of Herod's Gate, one of the 450 year old gates of the Old City wall. The Jerusalem Center's walked garden is shaded by trees : cypress, pine, citrus, and olive, with flagstone walks for convenience.

The Jerusalem Center itself occupies an attractive building of limestone and adobe construction. It provides accommodation with a hint of Oriental charm, reflecting the Arabic architectural tradition of the Middle East.

Sleeping facilities are hostel style with separate sections for men and women, each with modern bath facilities. Each spacious room has bunk beds for six persons. Although married couples are welcome, the building has limited facilities for private accommodation.

The Jerusalem Center includes an attractive lecture classroom and a modest library of basic reference works and Adventist publications. Large collections in several languages are available at nearby libraries (École Biblique et Archéologique Française de Jérusalem and the Albright institute of Archeology). Quiet surroundings and pleasant temperatures encourage students to study in the open air of the garden.

The Study Center includes a modest room for the director-professor, who resides within the building itself.

A modern kitchen provides facilities for food preparation. City water is safe to drink. Well-qualified physicians, dentists and up-to-date hospitals are available in case of medical emergencies. An efficient telephone system connects Jerusalem with the world and Internet.

Living conditions resemble those of an extended family rather than a serviced hotel. Each participant helps keep the Center clean and attractive.
